The benefits and drawbacks of Mass media
Mass media, that have informed people many years ago and pave the way to discover different cultures worldwide, can be sometimes harmful if they are not used appropriately. So, what are the advantages and disadvantages of mass media?
First of all, the media like television, radio and the internet increase an overall awareness of the masses, they also enhance the general knowledge by providing us with information from all over the world. Next news in general broadcasted through different media help us know about the day-to-day events in the world. Films, documentaries, reports revolving around social issues increase a social awareness in children and develop their concern.
However, mass media can be also threatening to our lives; for instance, people spending hours in front of a television or surfing the internet have to suffer from eye problems and obesity. Moreover, children, who should invest their time in reading good books, studying, playing outdoors, exercising and engaging in social activities, to day, spend their evening watching television or reading boring newspapers. Then, mass media also can offer false news that can make conflict between countries and create political turmoil.
Clearly, mass media is normally used to sensitise people about what is around them and to produce logical news, but using them negatively will not make them reliable source
