Friday night Smackdown opened with a segment that's sure to leave a nasty taste. Jeff Hardy emerged because the prime suspect during a hit and run case against Elias and was arrested. The show began with Elias laying within the street and being attended by paramedics next to a crashed car, that alcohol and paperwork suggesting it the vehicle was rented by Hardy. Hardy was found laying near the bushed, reeking of the smell alcohol and arrested. Hardy was cleared of the first charges, which were public intoxication, driving under the influence, and therefore the hit-and-run on Elias.
All this, of course, is a component of a storyline to create a feud between him and Sheamus, but fans are criticising WWE for using real-life charges from Hardy's past.
It took a short time for the entire angle to be digested completely. WWE has within the past included real-life scenarios in storylines but during this particular case, they'll be taken things a touch too far. Hardy’s history of drug abuse and DUI offences are extremely sensitive topics. Portraying it on TV may be a pretty solid example of poor booking and definitely not what the WWE stands for.
None the less, the angle led to cancellation of two matches for the evening Elias vs AJ Styles and Hardy vs Daniel Bryan for the Intercontinental title tournament. Styles gleefully accepted a walkover into the tournament final, but Bryan decided to fight for it. So so as to work out his opponent, a 10-man melee was found out . Despite a powerful show by King Corbin, who eliminated the primary four participants, it had been Sheamus who won the match by removing Jey Uso with a Brogue Kick. The win led to an enticing main event with Bryan and Sheamus battling for a spot within the final. Sheamus kept mocking Bryan, reminding the Leader of the Yes Movement of his 18-second win at WrestleMania 28. Sheamus landed the noise but just when it seemed he would draw in on the win, Hardy walked out the ramp. Enough to distract Sheamus, Bryan struck with the running knee and found out a clash with Styles next week to work out the new Intercontinental champion. The show came to an in depth with Hardy beating down on the Celtic Warrior.
It was the right end to a powerful show otherwise, which saw a few of exciting matches within the women’s division. Lacey Evans battled Sonya Deville which led to a double declare before and Sasha Banks picked up a convert one half the Smackdown Women’s tag champ Alexa Bliss. Shorty G had his moment, defeating Cesaro via pinfall with a sunset flip. A match that stemmed from the melee earlier within the evening, saw the Olympian overcome an early onslaught from Swiss Superman before learning a powerful win.
